We do not enter many competitions. The forms are long and the drinks have to travel warm. But Ida filled this one in without telling anyone, and last week Blackcurrant came home from the Northern Soft Drink Awards with a silver in the unsweetened class.
What the judges said
The notes mention “a green, almost tomato-leaf sharpness” and “a finish that is longer than expected”. One judge wrote only “more, please”, which we have pinned above the filler.
“It is made from the part of the plant most people throw away. That it won anything at all is the point.”
What changes
Nothing. The recipe stays as it is, the label stays as it is, and there will be no medal sticker on the can. We did buy a cake.
